Day 2-2

A couple other interesting parts of our day included a visit the church of S. Luigi, just outside Piazza Navona.  This church contains many important artworks by the artist Carvaggio.  It also has some cool carving and ornamentation and is known as the "French church" having been built by the French  ex-pat community in the 1500's to impress the dowdy Italians with French artistic taste and superiority. We were going through the church admiring and discussing the artwork when Meredith suddenly aske, "Who is the Virgin Mary?" Puzzled, we explained again the basic Christian story, which Meredith certainly has known from childhood.  Her next question was, "Wait:  then Mary and Joseph were not married?  Then how did Mary have Jesus, and was she a virgin?" And then we were off.  When you have to conduct an impromptu Sunday School and sex ed class for your daughters there is no better place than the marble steps of a beautiful church in Rome on a sunny day.
